📏 BMI Calculator

Calculate your Body Mass Index to assess weight relative to height.

Formula: BMI = (weight in lbs / height in inches²) × 703. Categories: Underweight (<18.5), Normal (18.5–24.9), Overweight (25–29.9), Obese (30+).

What BMI tells you (and what it doesn't)

Body Mass Index is a quick screen for whether your weight is in a healthy range for your height. It's easy to calculate and useful at the population level, which is why doctors and health agencies still use it. The categories — underweight, normal, overweight, and obese — come from long-standing thresholds tied to health-risk data.

The catch: BMI only knows your weight and height. It can't tell muscle from fat, so a lean, heavily muscled lifter may land in the "overweight" band despite being in great shape, while someone "normal" by BMI could carry high body fat. If you train seriously, pair BMI with the body fat calculator for a fuller picture, and use the TDEE calculator to set calories if you want to change the number.
